SmartDeploy has made creating and managing images a breeze. Overnight we went from managing a half dozen images down to managing just one. It takes the complexity out of tools like DISM and ImageX. Using a virtual machine to create our master installation was a genius idea and we no longer have to wait weeks after new hardware models are released to procure a machine and start a new image from scratch. We have 6 PC Technicians who support 800 PCs across our enterprise. In the past we used a drive imaging product to create multiple base images for Windows XP which we centrally managed and deployed to our technicians across all locations. Each location would use the standard set of base images provided by the corporate IT group. We purchased PCs centrally and adhered to hardware standards, yet still we had about 5 PC and 5 laptop platforms to support. At times it was challenging to maintain base images that would work across all hardware platforms. Once we got a working image, it was a difficult task to update the image and test it on all hardware platforms, so we(I) didn't update the image that often. When we rolled out Windows 7 we quickly determined that our current imaging application wasn't compatible with Windows 7, so we looked for other options. A co-worker read about SmartDeploy and suggested we take a look at the product. I AM VERY HAPPY HE FOUND YOUR PRODUCT. When we deploy the base image to the computer, SmartDeploy automatically combines the appropriate drivers to the base image, joins the domain, and once the process is complete our users are able to sign in to a clean, fresh machine. SmartDeploy will even update the BIOS if needed! For us, the product was a perfect fit. Using the SmartDeploy approach has made the job of maintaining base images very easy. The SmartDeploy management and deployment concept is great! I create and maintain just two base images using standard virtual technology. I have one for 32-bit Windows 7 and another for 64-bit. Updating these base images is easy. When we rolled out Windows 7 SP1, I just powered up the virtual machines, installed the updates, and ran the SmartDeploy process which created the new base images. I then shipped all locations current base images. Updating the base image to Office 2010 was just as easy. I no longer need to worry about vendor specific hardware drivers. The drivers are completely separated from the base image. Updating vendor specific hardware drivers is also very easy. Current "vendor driver packs" are available for download on SmartDeploy's web site and if needed these can be updated to suit your own needs. Thank you SmartDeploy for making a great product that fit our specific needs in a way that makes it very simple for us to manage.
