Image Consolidation
VM Express consolidates multiple VMs into a single master image that can be updated with deltas over time. For efficiency, this master image can be distributed on offline media, or downloaded. The VM Express client is a Windows application used to reassemble VMs from the master image file to their original state.
Delta Image Files
As source VMs are updated and new VMs are created, a small file containing only the unique files not found in the original master are stored in a delta image. VM Express is updated via web services for the new content. Through the VM Express client application, the delta image file can then be downloaded over the web and used in conjunction with the master image to deploy a unique VM.
Efficient VM Distribution
Through delta images, the master image survives VM updates, changes, and new releases. Thus VM Express eliminates one-time-use DVD distributions that can be outdated quickly. Through a web services-enabled VM catalog and the delivery of delta images over the web, VM Express maximizes investments in VM distribution.
